Black Nativity Review

Disclosure:  We received a free copy of the DVD to facilitate our honest review.  All opinions stated are those of the Shelly's Bits and Pieces family!

When I received an email about a new movie being released on Blu-Ray and DVD, titled Black Nativity, I was intrigued.  I have no idea how I missed that movie when it went into theaters.  My interest was peaked and I am very excited to say I got to review it!

About the movie:  Struggling to pay the bills, single mom Naima (Jennifer Hudson) sends her teenage son Langston (Jacob Latimore) to live with his estranged grandparents, Reverend Cornell and Aretha Cobbs (Forest Whitaker and Angela Bassett) in New York City. At first Langston resents their strict household, but with the help of new friends — and a little divine intervention — he embarks on an inspirational journey of self-discovery that brings the whole family together.

Black Nativity is based on the gospel play written by world famous poet/novelist/playwright Langston Hughes. This movie has a dynamic cast which includes Jennifer Hudson, Forest Whitaker and Angela Bassett.  Black Nativity also includes an angelic Mary J Blige.  The soundtrack to the movie is great and the songs flow smoothly throughout the movie.  Chefy and I loved that the movie was inspiring.  It had a wonderful storyline and left you feeling good.  Although it is a holiday based movie, Black Nativity can be watched and enjoyed year round.
